Tata Motor Will Launch Luxury Electric Vehicle Brand Soon – First EV Will Be a Sportback

Tata Motor’s new luxury EV brand Avinya will come with a sportback in coming time

Tata Motors is taking a different approach with its new Avinya luxury electric brand, choosing to introduce a Sportback as its first model instead of immediately launching an SUV. Speaking at Auto Expo 2025, Martin Uhlarik, Tata Motors’ Global Design head, revealed that the Avinya concept unveiled two years ago was more than just a vision it was a preview of the brand’s first production model.

He described the upcoming Sportback as a five-door vehicle with a sleek, low-slung, and highly dynamic design. According to Uhlarik, the design phase for this model is complete, and the car is set to debut next year. He emphasized that the Sportback is intended to be a “real brand builder,” making a bold statement for Tata’s entry into the luxury EV segment.

Despite its non-traditional body style, Tata Motors aims for a significant production run of 24,000 units per year, signaling strong confidence in the model’s market potential. Following the Sportback, Tata will introduce an SUV based on the Avinya X concept, which was showcased at this year’s Auto Expo. Uhlarik referred to this SUV as a “brand pillar,” suggesting that its conventional SUV form may appeal to a broader audience. According to sources, the SUV will be one of the higher-end models in the five-car Avinya lineup, with a three-row version positioned at the top.

All Avinya models, including the Sportback and SUV, will be built on Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA platform. In addition to these two models, Tata Motors is also developing a compact SUV measuring around 4.4 meters and a larger 4.9-meter premium UV, similar in size to the Volvo EM90 MPV. With this strategic lineup, Tata is looking to establish Avinya as a premium, forward-thinking electric brand in the global market.
